I once saw a cartoon of a guy planting a seed, and coming back every five minutes to see if anything grew...

After the 6th time he checked (30 minutes elapsed), he kicked the seed out of the soil and yells at the package "this isn't working", and he stormed off.

That's how most companies look at their marketing. They do a trial, expect immediate results, and boatloads clients lining up with signed contracts.

What people don't realize is that marketing is a pillar of any business, it's a long term startegy. Much like having a sales team, secretary, or going to tradeshows.

Marketing cannot be judged week on week, but needs to be evaluated quarterly and even yearly.
